Mean age for first R01 grant was 44 in 2020

Statistics provided by NIH show that the average age at which investigators get their first R01 has crept up over the years to 44 in 2020. The agency's concerns about the aging of the biomedical workforce led to implementation of an Early-Stage Investigator policy. There was no difference between men and women, and the rate of increase has slowed down. Check out the details here.

NSF report on women, minorities & persons with disabilities in science & engineering

 The agency's biannual report found that women earned about half of S&E degrees in 2018, but that they were underrepresented in computer sciences and engineering. The share and number of S&E degrees awarded to underrepresented minorities increased over the past decade. Details are available here.
